Last week we saw a couple of new cars and two-wheelers being launched in India. We have compiled an exhaustive list and divided it into two parts, Cars and Two-Wheelers – for you to follow on these easily. In this first part, we update you on the latest car launches that took place in the previous week.
During this pandemic, everything came to a halt, but with time, things got eased up. Last week, many automobile manufacturers showcased and launched their new offerings on the Indian soil. There were 4 major car launches in the previous week. Let’s have a look at them –
Mahindra
Mahindra launched its much anticipated and all-time popular off-road SUV, the Thar on 15th August 2020. Mahindra Thar was due for its share of an update for a long time and finally, it gets that. Mahindra launched its latest offering on 15th august to mark the rebirth of this iconic SUV in a fresh new avatar with India’s 74th Independence Day.

The new Thar comes after a long 10-year wait and it not only comes with an overhauled body but also brings with it a host of new features and an automatic transmission along with a slew of brand new engine choices. Even though it retains its iconic ‘Jeep-ish’ silhouette, the new Thar looks and feel brand new.
Kia
Korean automaker Kia has already tasted success with two of its most popular cars, the Seltos and the Carnival in India and was eyeing the competitive Compact SUV segment in India. Kia, on 7th August 2020 launched the Sonet in India among the stiff competitors in its segment.



Kia launched the Sonet compact SUV as its third offering on the Indian soil.
Kia, earlier this year, unveiled the Sonet concept at the 2020 Auto Expo and with it, hinted at a possible launch of this new vehicle on the India soil. The Kia Sonet offers great styling along with a wide array of features to compete against its well-established rivals. Kia will be producing the Sonet in their Andhra Pradesh plant only, for both export and domestic sale purposes.
Ford
American auto giant Ford launched a special edition of the Freestyle cross hatchback called the “Freestyle Flair” edition at Rs 7.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in India. It is a cosmetic trim which sits above the top-spec Titanium+ trim level.

Renault
French carmaker Renault recently updated its mid-size SUV, the Duster line-up by introducing a turbo-petrol version at a price of Rs. 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Renault offers the new Duster with a BS6 compliant power plant along with an option of either an Automatic Transmission or a Manual Transmission to choose from.

The new Renault Duster is pitted against the Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos and the newly launched Hyundai Creta. The latter two Korean cars are its toughest competitors, considering their fan base and popularity among the masses. It is also pitted against the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, which is available at a lesser price.
