Kia Motors India sells 1 lakh units in 2020

South Korean automaker Kia Motors, recently announced that its Indian division has crossed 1 lakh sales milestone in its first year. The marquee achieved this number in 11 months, with both of its cars, Seltos & Carnival performing well in their respective segments. Earlier in March 2020, Kia had announced its 75,000 cumulative sales milestone, and now, after almost 5 months, the brand has hit another milestone.

“With such a great performance in under a year, Kia has become the ‘fastest automobile manufacturer’ to reach 1,00,000 sales figure.”

Marking this special milestone, Kookhyun Shim, MD and CEO, Kia Motors India said –

2019 marked an important year for Kia as we introduced our first car for the Indian market with an aim to become a household name in the country. We are overwhelmed with the response and acceptance that Indian customers have shown towards us. Reaching the one lakh milestone with just two products, in a record 11-month time, is a testament to our commitment to India.”

As of now, Kia has launched 2 models in India, and both of them have got a tremendous response from the consumers. The Kia Seltos, alone gave an impressive sales figure of 97,745 units, while the Carnival, which was launched at the Auto Expo 2020, bagged a sales figure of 3614 units till date. The Kia Carnival is a premium alternative to the popular Toyota Innova Crysta and has tapped in a market where the latter was the only option for the buyers before.

Recently, Kia announced an investment of whopping USD 54 million (Rs 400 Crore) in its India’s first and only production plant, the Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh for increasing the production capacity to 4,00,0004,50,000 lakh units per annum. Connecting with this, Kia is gearing up for the launch of its third vehicle, Sonet in India soon and with this, it is hoping for another 1,00,000 sales figure alone from this car.
