Volkswagen is currently working on numerous new projects for various markets across the globe. Of them, one such model is the Tiguan. The VW Tiguan AllSpace version was recently launched in India in March 2020 and its regular version, the new 2020 Tiguan is expected to hit the showrooms later this year.
Expanding the Tiguan line-up, Volkswagen, in a joint venture between Chinese automobile manufacturer FAW, is co-developing the new Tiguan X coupe SUV. VW is manufacturing this SUV exclusively for the Chinese market. The upcoming coupe SUV is the successor to the Volkswagen Tayron – X coupe SUV.
The new Tiguan X will be launched later this year in China and if demand for this arises in other markets, then it can possibly see a global launch.
Design-wise, the upcoming Tiguan X has a slanted roofline at the rear along with redesigned body elements when compared with the standard Tiguan. The rear fascia has been completely redesigned with design elements like Lamborghini-inspired tail light bar, a beefy bumper and fake exhaust tips. At the front though, the change seems little and seems similar to the regular version.
Under the hood, the Tiguan X is expected to come with a 2-litre turbocharged inline-4 engine with 2 power options of 189hp and 223hp to choose from.
As mentioned before, the Tiguan X is China-only model which is being co-manufactured by FAW and Volkswagen, so expecting its launch in India in India is unlikely. However we can still hope for this version in the future as the regular 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to be launched later this year as a petrol-only variant.
